Solvent‑Free Silicone Release Paper

  • Solvent‑Based vs Solvent‑Free Silicone Release Paper for Hygiene Products
    Aug 08, 2026
Solvent‑based silicone release paper: Silicone oil is diluted with petroleum‑based solvents such as toluene before coating. The solvents are evaporated in the oven to cross‑link and cure the silicone layer. Solvent‑free silicone release paper: No petroleum solvents are added. Pure liquid silicone oil is applied directly via multi‑roll coating, then thermally cross‑linked into a complete film without solvent evaporation.   Differences in Key Performance:   Odor & Residue: • Solvent‑based release paper: It is a mature process. Solvents can be fully removed with sufficient oven length. However, insufficient baking may leave trace solvent residues. Slight solvent odor may occur under high‑temperature storage. VOC and volatile residues are strictly controlled for European and American export orders. • Solvent‑free release paper: Virtually odor‑free with zero solvent residue. It is preferred for hygiene articles, EU / Middle‑East exports and baby‑related products. It can easily meet SGS and FDA requirements for hygiene‑contact materials.    Release Performance & Production Compatibility for High‑Speed Hygiene Lines: • Solvent‑based release paper: Delicate coating leveling. Release force can be adjusted over a wide range for light‑release and medium‑release grades. Good compatibility with older production equipment. Disadvantages include higher coating weight and release‑force drift (increasing peel force) after long‑term jumbo‑roll storage. • Solvent‑free release paper: Uniform and bright coating surface. High residual adhesion rate (>92 %) with minimal silicone migration. Release force remains stable after jumbo‑roll maturing, well‑suited for high‑speed sanitary‑napkin production lines. The main limitation is high requirement for coating‑equipment precision; ultra‑light‑release grade (<8 g/25 mm) is more difficult to manufacture compared with solvent‑based type.   Cost:  • Solvent‑based: Lower cost, widely adopted by mid‑to‑low‑end  hygiene manufacturers. • Solvent‑free: Higher than then solvent base release paper. It is a premium option and commonly specified by major international brands.   Environmental & Regulatory Compliance: • Solvent‑based: Generates large‑volume VOC emissions during manufacturing and faces stricter local environmental regulations. European customers may request solvent‑residue testing. • Solvent‑free: Very low exhaust emissions. Complies with 4evergreen and EU material requirements for hygiene contact. Solvent‑free release liners are increasingly mandatory for overseas orders.   Selection Guidelines for Hygiene Applications:   For mid-high end hygiene manufacture or to Erurop,Australia ect rich countries: Solvent‑free release paper is highly recommended to avoid solvent‑residue risks and customer complaints.   Xinfei focus on hygiene solvent free release paper manufacture for more than 30 years. We are the biggest hygiene release paper manufacturer in China and cooperating with P&G global,Kimberly Clark global, Unicharm global, Kao global , Vinda global,Hengan and so on.
